Quotes

A man ought to live so that everybody knows he is a Christian... and most of all, his family ought to know. - Dwight Moody

A rule I have had for years is: to treat the Lord Jesus Christ as a personal friend. His is not a creed, a mere doctrine, but it is He Himself we have. - Dwight Moody

Character is what a man is in the dark. - Dwight Moody

Faith Quotes

“Faith talks in the language of God. Doubt talks in the language of man.” - E.W. Kenyon

“Belief is a moral decision.” - Pastor Mirek Hufton

The world says, “Seeing is believing” – Faith says, “Believing is seeing”. - Pastor Tim Hall

“The subject then of these chapters may be stated thus, — man’s only righteousness is through the mercy of God in Christ, which being offered by the Gospel is apprehended by faith.” - John Calvin

Family Quotes

“A man travels the world over in search of what he needs, and returns home to find it.” - George Moore

“The great gift of family life is to be intimately acquainted with people you might never even introduce yourself to, had life not done it for you.” - Kendall Hailey

“A happy family is but an earlier heaven.” -John Bowring

Giving To Your Pastor

1 Corinthians 9:14

In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.

Galatians 6:6

6 Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.

7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Gifts of the Spirits in Acts

Miracles

Acts 2:43

Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.

Acts 4:22

For the man who was miraculously healed was over forty years old.

Acts 5:12-16

12 The apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon's Colonnade.

13 No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people.

14 Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number.

15 As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by.

16 Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by evil spirits, and all of them were healed.

Acts 6:8

Now Stephen, a man full of God's grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people.

Prophecy

Acts 2:17

“‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.

18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

19 I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke.

20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.

21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

“Go’s”

Go 2 miles

Matthew 5:41

If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.

Go preach

Mark 16:15

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.

Go not from house to house

Luke 10:7

Stay in that house, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.

Go and do likewise

Luke 10:37

The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Overflowing

“My cup overflows with blessings.”  Psalm 23:5 NLT

Is an overflowing cup full? Absolutely. The wine reaches the rim and then tumbles over the edge. The goblet is not large enough to contain the quantity. According to David, our hearts are not large enough to contain the blessings that God wants to give. He pours and pours until they literally flow over the edge and down on the table . . .

The last thing we need to worry about is not having enough. Our cup overflows with blessings. - Max Lucado

The Word “World” in the Bible

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

1 John 2:16

For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world.

1 Timothy 6:17

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

Mark 7:36

Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it.

Mark 11:16-19

16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts.

17 And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: “‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’”

18 The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.

19 When evening came, they went out of the city.

Mark 6:31

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Evangelism

"You must pray with all your might.  That does not mean saying your prayers, or sitting gazing about in church or chapel with eyes wide open while someone else says them for you.  It means fervent, effectual, untiring wrestling with God...This kind of prayer be sure the devil and the world and your own indolent, unbelieving nature will oppose.  They will pour water on this flame." - William Booth

No single church can possibly reach everyone. It takes all kinds of churches to reach all kinds of people.

"Revival is the recognition of the ministry of insignificant members of the body, and deliverance from idol worship of the more prominent members who are in the limelight." – James A. Stewart

"Revival and change are almost synonymous terms and both clearly cut across traditionalism. There is no way true revival can occur without major changes disrupting and reordering the life of the Church... God is no traditionalist. While God is orderly, He is always fresh and vital. If a church can run according to forms and traditions of men, it will run without the presence and power of God ... Is it any wonder the love of tradition is an enemy to revival? Revival and new life go hand in hand ... Let every church realize that the inordinate love of tradition is a great opponent to revival ... When a church slays the love of tradition, a major obstacle to revival will be slain With it." – Richard Owen Roberts

Things Men Can Do

Draw back unto perdition instead of progressing with Salvation of the Soul

Hebrews 10:38-39

38 But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him.”

39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.

Trust their back on God

They say to wood, ‘You are my father,’ and to stone, ‘You gave me birth.’ They have turned their backs to me and not their faces; yet when they are in trouble, they say, ‘Come and save us!’

Slide back with a perpetual backsliding

Why then have these people turned away? Why does Jerusalem always turn away? They cling to deceit; they refuse to return.

Be turned away back

Jeremiah 38:22

All the women left in the palace of the king of Judah will be brought out to the officials of the king of Babylon. Those women will say to you: “‘they misled you and overcame you— those trusted friends of yours. Your feet are sunk in the mud; your friends have deserted you.’

34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

35 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.

Mark 7:21-23

21 For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,

22 greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.

23 All these evils come from inside and make a man ‘unclean.’”

Jeremiah 17:9

The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

Matthew 15:19

For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

Psalms 139:23-24

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Proverbs 23:19

Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path.

Nature of the evil heart

Their foolish heart was darkened:

Romans 1:21

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Do err in their heart:

Psalms 95:10

For forty years I was angry with that generation; I said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways.”

That heart is turned away from God:

Deuteronomy 29:8

We took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

Jeremiah 17:5

This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD.

Impenitent heart:

Romans 2:5

But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.

Evil heart of unbelief:

Hebrews 3:12

See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.

Hardness of heart:

Ephesians 4:18

They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.

Uncircumcised heart:

Leviticus 26:41

Which made me hostile toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies—then when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they pay for their sin,

At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind.

Luke 8:2

And also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out;

Luke 11:26

Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first.”

Acts 19:12

So that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them.

What the Bible says about envy?

Galatians 5:19-21

19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;

20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions

21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Timothy 6:4

He is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions

Titus 3:3

At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.

Evangelism

"Evangelism is being, doing and telling the gospel of the kingdom of God, in order that by the power of the Holy Spirit, persons and structures may be converted to the lordship of Jesus Christ." — Delos Miles

Thought:

Joy is not gush; joy is not jolliness.  Joy is just perfect acquiescence in God's will because the soul delights itself in God Himself…Hammer William Webb-Peploe

Smile:

People who wrestle with their consciences usually go for two falls out of three.

Evangelism

~ "The goal of our mission life is not to grow churches. The goal of church is to grow missionaries. The goal of the gospel is not to get people to church. The result of the gospel is that people will find each other and gather because of the deep meaning of a common experience." - Hugh Halter and Matt Smay

Teachings of Christ

Bread of life

John 6:32-35

32 Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven.

33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

34 “Sir,” they said, “from now on give us this bread.”

35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
