Jesus asked the Father to glorify Him, knowing fully well that the path to glory led to a hill called Calvary and to a cross that would be stained red with His own life’s blood.
The glory of Jesus would be revealed when the extent of His obedience to His Father caused Him to lay down His life for you and me.
It was at the cross that God’s curse for Adam’s sin was coiled into crown that Jesus wore.
It was at the cross that redemption was purchased for every believer by the sacrifice of God’s Lamb.
It was at the cross that even the vilest offenders received, by faith, a full pardon for their sins.
It was at the cross that God’s grace was poured out as a fountain filled with His own blood.
It was at the cross that the omnipotent Creator died for the human creature’s sin.
And it’s still at the cross of Jesus Christ where millions of men and women throughout the ages have laid down all that they are and all that they have as a debt of love to the One Who died for them. There is no other way for you and me to be saved from hell…to have our sins forgiven…to be reconciled to God…to receive eternal life…to go to heaven when we die, except through the cross.
It’s at the cross that Jesus Christ is gloried as the only Savior for sinners that God recognizes and accepts. And in His prayer that was forever indelibly written on the hearts and minds of His disciples, when Jesus asked His Father to glorify Himself—He was in effect asking for the cross! In other words, if He could bring glory to His Father through His death, then He was ready and willing to die, trusting His Father to see Him through the cross to the glory of our redemption!
It’s at the cross that God is also glorified because He answered His Son’s prayer and in doing so, reveals His love for you and me that stretches back beyond the remote recesses of eternity.
Evangelism:
“If not you and me, who else? If not here and now, where and how?”
