Think it over
~ Praise comes naturally when you count your blessings.
~ Don’t let prayer be your last recourse in time of need;
make it your first.
~ Honest questions can lead to faith-building answers.
~ To teach your children well, let God teach you.
~ There is no place where earth’s sorrows are felt more than
in heaven.
~ Because God cares about us, we can leave our cares with
Him.
Righteousness
Deuteronomy 1:16
And I charged your judges at that time: Hear the disputes
between your brothers and judge fairly, whether the case is between brother
Israelites or between one of them and an alien.
Deuteronomy
6:25
And if we
are careful to obey all this law before the LORD our God, as he has commanded
us, that will be our righteousness.”
Deuteronomy 9:4
After the LORD your God has driven them out before you, do
not say to yourself, “The LORD has brought me here to take possession of this
land because of my righteousness.” No, it is on account of the wickedness of
these nations that the LORD is going to drive them out before you.
God’s Word
Just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;
for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." - 1 Peter 1:15-16
Thoughts on This Verse...
"Holy" is one of those words we generally associate
with the "stained glass ghetto" -- a word only "church
folks" use. That may be true, but it's still a great concept. Every kid
knows that you don't eat hot dogs and potato chips on china. Mom's china is
reserved for "special company" or "special occasions." Hot
dogs are for paper plates and every day, china is for special events. When God
is calling us to be holy, he's calling us to be china -- something special just
for him, and as Peter emphasizes, just like him.
