Zechariah 7:9-10
“This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other."
Do you want a clear, simple, straightforward word from the Lord today? That's what Zechariah gives us. He reminds us that God wants us to be fair, compassionate, caring, without prejudice, and tenderhearted to those in need, and to give each other the benefit of the doubt. In other words, he wants us to treat each other like Christ treated people. Why? Because we can't be right with God and be wrong with people!
Improving Our Prayers
Ephesians 3:14-16
Are you satisfied with your prayer life? I don’t know too many people who would answer yes to that question, because most of us know that we fall short in this discipline. Even the most mature believers recognize their need for improvement, and one of the best methods for doing that is examining scriptural prayers and using them as a model.
Several of Paul’s prayers are recorded in his epistles, and they supply wonderful insights about different ways to pray. In today’s passage, we see two foundations for prayer.
Immediately
Mark 1:18
They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
Changed
Mark 16:15
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
Thoughts
. Repentance was perhaps best defined by a small girl: “It’s to be sorry enough to quit.” - Unknown
. God is more truly imagined than expressed, and he exists more truly than he is imagined. - Augustine of Hippo
. “Stay” is a charming word in a friend’s vocabulary. - Louisa May Alcott
. The farther we go along the path of God, the more angels we shall encounter.
