The Christmas Message

The Story of Christmas

By Rev. Dr. Emmanuel James

The Christmas Message

What is the message of Christmas? When you hear the term Christmas what comes to your mind? Do thoughts of baby Jesus come to your mind? Or do you see the images of packages and presents under the Christmas Tree?  Christmas is a time for fellowship and demonstrating our love for others. Let us never forget God was the first to demonstrate His love for us. And this has not changed throughout the centuries since His Son Jesus’ birth, He is still saying "I love you" to all those who listen to His voice.

The message of Christmas is one of God's personal love given through the life of Jesus Christ. It is a message of extreme unconditional favor and acceptance of all persons. This is because the message of Christmas is one of eternal love. His love bears all, believes all, hopes all, and endures all. The message of Christmas never fails because it is the message of Love – unconditional, all embracing, forgiving love of God for you and me.  God loves you and no one can take His love away from you. God’s love brings freedom from the strongest bondage of sin and offers forgiveness to our deepest sin. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). For those who accept this message of Christmas there is an opportunity for a new beginning. And while some may reject the message of Christmas, they cannot cancel its existence.

Jesus Christ is God's answer to those who are lost, oppressed, depressed and emotionally hurting. The message of Christmas is the message of joy, peace, praise and adoration that the host of angels sang to the shepherds the night Jesus was born: "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord" (Luke 2:10-11).  Today, as we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, let us remember with JOY the message of PEACE the angels proclaimed. As we focus our prayers on giving THANKS, let the Lord cause your life to ring clearly with the message of healing and salvation, joy and peace to all people across the world.
