Prepare to meet your God.

Amos announced God’s judgment on the people for turning away from God, for being cruel to the poor, and for living selfishly. In a series of five visions, Amos saw the day of doom as being close. He warned the people that they were to prepare to meet God. (Amos 4:12). For those who loved God, however, Amos had a word of hope. The day was coming when the kingdom of David would be re-established and God’s people would dwell in safety.

Because God punishes sins:

“On that day I punish Israel for her sins. I will destroy the altars of Bethel; the horns of the altar will be cut off and fall to the ground”…Amos 3:14

“I hate, despise your religious feasts; I cannot stand your assemblies. Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them. Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-falling stream!”…Amos 5:21-24

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”…Romans 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”…Romans 6:23

How to be Ready? –Jesus has prepared the Way—Himself:

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”…John 14:6

When to be Ready?—Now is the time:

For says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, and now is the day of salvation…2 Corinthians 6:2

Why to be Ready? Because man may die at any time:

“Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment”…Hebrew 9:27

Where to be Ready? Here and now:

“Seek the Lord, while he may be found; call on Him while he is near”…Isaiah 55:6
