Still Small Voice

“For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn; he will never go back on his promises.”…Romans 11:29.

God did not give up on Elijah even when Elijah wanted to give up on himself. God did not leave Elijah alone.

Despite Elijah’s depressed condition, wavering resolve, and shattered morale, God deny or forsake us in our weaknesses. God will not deny us, for He will not deny Himself. Think of it!

God is faithful. To His Word, to His character, to us. God did three things for Elijah.  God fed him. God rested him. God gave him quietness. In days to recover, Elijah needed three things: rest, diet, and quiet.

In days of intensity and crisis, when life becomes too subjective, perspective too muddled, thinking too incoherent, and the need to know and understand too difficult, God will “provide a way of escape.” It’s an escape from ourselves to God.

A peaceful atmosphere creates a meditative spirit. Even Jesus “went apart” for a season. (Matthew 14:13).  Think of the ministry Jesus had—the anointing He carried, the demands people placed upon Him, the persecution against Him, and the challenge to His character—then you can begin to realize the enormity of the pressure He was under.

He took time to be alone with the Father.  If Jesus and Elijah needed it—think how much more we do. Elijah needed to hear from God. To do so he needed to be in a spiritual condition to hear that “Still Small Voice”. (1 kings 19:12).

God waited to speak until Elijah was ready to hear.
