Symbols of the Messiah

A sure foundation

1 Corinthians 3:11

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 10:4

And drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.

A smitten rock

Psalms 78:16

He brought streams out of a rocky crag and made water flow down like rivers.

Numbers 20:8-11

8 “Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink.”

9 So Moses took the staff from the LORD's presence, just as he commanded him.

10 He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?”

11 Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.

Head stone of the corner

Psalms 118:22

The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone;

Rejected stone

Acts 4:11  He is

“‘The stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone.’

Romans 9:32-33

32 Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the “stumbling stone.”

33 As it is written: “See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

A living stone

1 Peter 2:4

As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him
A rock (stone) of offense

1 Peter 2:8
And, “A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.
