Friendship

Friendship

Proverbs 18:24

A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Proverbs 13:20

He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

John 15:13

Greater love has no one than this that he lay down his life for his friends.

Proverbs 27:17

As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Proverbs 22:24-25

24 Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man; do not associate with one easily angered,

25 or you may learn his ways and get yourself ensnared.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:

10 If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!

James 4:8

Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Proverbs 12:26

A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Proverbs 15:22

Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.

We see in the Bible God’s friends:

The reason God considered Job and David his close friends was that they valued his word above everything else, and they thought about it continually throughout the day.

Job admitted, “I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread. – Job 23:12

“David said, “Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.”—Ps.119:97 they are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about them.—Ps.77:12.

We Christians always sing this hymn…

What a Friend we have in Jesus

All our sins and grief’s to bear!

What a privilege to carry

Everything to God in Prayer.

Oh, what peace we often forfeit,

All because we do not carry

Everything to God in Prayer.

Have we trials and temptations?

We should be never discouraged

Can we find a friend so faithful?

Poetry

Around the corner I have a friend,

In this great city that has no end.

Yet days go by and weeks rush on,

And before I know it a year is gone,

And I never see my old friend's face;

For life is a swift and terrible race.

He knows I like him just as well

As in the days when I rang his bell

And he rang mine. We were younger then--

And now we are busy, tired men--

Tired with playing a foolish game;

Tired with trying to make a name.

"Tomorrow," I say, "I will call on Jim,

Just to show that I'm thinking of him."

But tomorrow comes--and tomorrow goes;

And the distance between us grows and grows.

Around the corner!--yet miles away...

"Here's a telegram, sir."

"Jim died today."

And that's what we get--and deserve in the end--

Around the corner, a vanished friend.
