Submit one to another
Ephesians 5:21
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Submit to God
James 4:7
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he
will flee from you.
Submit to every ordinance of man
1 Peter 2:13-14
13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority
instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority,
14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who
do wrong and to commend those who do right.
Romans 13:1-8
1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities,
for there is no authority except that which God has established. The
authorities that exist have been established by God.
2 Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is
rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring
judgment on themselves.
3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for
those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority?
Then do what is right and he will commend you.
4 For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do
wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's
servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.
5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities,
not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.
6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are
God's servants, who give their full time to governing.
7 Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes;
if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt
to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.
Wives submit to husbands
Ephesians 5:22
Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
Colossians 3:18
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
1 Peter 3:1-6
1 Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so
that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without
words by the behavior of their wives,
2 when they see the purity and reverence of your lives.
3 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as
braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes.
4 Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading
beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.
5 For this is the way the holy women of the past who put
their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to
their own husbands,
6 like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master.
You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.
