When the Church Prays

Acts 16:25

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.

What happens when the church prays?

There is an abiding sense of unity

God hears the prayers of the righteous

God acts on behalf of His followers

A Prayer Vigil at Midnight

Acts 16:25-26

25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.

26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose.

The place: a jail cell

The worshipers: Paul and Silas

The hour: midnight

The ritual: Prayer and songs

The objective: praises unto God

The results: doors opened and bands loosed

The escape: to freedom’s holy light

The aftermath: the jailer and his family were saved

Good News in the Midst of the Storm

Acts 27:22

But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed.

God sends the storm to bring the wayward back to him

God sends the storm to teach us the necessity of faith

God sends the storm to reassure the righteous
