All unrighteousness is sin

1 John 5:17

17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.

Transgression of law is sin

1 John 3:4

4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness

What is not of faith is sin

Romans 14:23

23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is

John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 3:18

18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Not doing good when one knows to do good is sin

James 4:17

17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.

Luke 12:48

48 But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.

What separates man from God is sin

Isaiah 59:2

2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God;

 And your sins have hidden His face from you,

 So that He will not hear.

Proverbs 21:23
