The Characteristics of Sin

Sin give a guilt feeling to the sinner

Genesis 3:8 

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

Sin is a willful act

Genesis 4:8 

Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let's go out to the field.” And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

Hebrews 10:26 

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,

Sin is enticing and alluring 

Genesis 3:6 

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

Proverbs 9:17 

“Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!”

Sin puts the sinner into bondage

2 Peter 2:19 

They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.

Sin is inexcusable

Romans 1:20 

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
