What is the nature of our calling?

1.

Not according to man’s wisdom:

1 Corinthians 1:26

For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.

2.

The heavenly calling of God:

Philippians 3:14

I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

3.

The holy calling:

2 Timothy 1:9

Who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,

4.

In peace:

1 Corinthians 7:15

But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved. God has called you to peace.

5.

Some refuse their calling:

Matthew 22:3-6

And sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come.  Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.”’  But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.

6.

Many are called, but few are chosen:

Matthew 22:14

For many are called, but few are chosen.”

7.

We must make our calling sure:

2 Peter 1:10

Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.
