When He Expired?

Nine o’clock in the morning He was nailed to the cross. He expired six hours later at 3.00 p.m. at the time when the Passover lambs were to be killed.

Matthew 27:45-50
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.  And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”  And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.”
And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink.  But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.”  And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.
Luke 23:44-46
It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, while the sun's light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.  Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last.

.. When a little child becomes conscious of being a little child, the child-likeness is gone; and when a saint becomes conscious of being a saint, something has gone wrong. - Oswald Chambers

.. I never begin my work in the morning without thinking that perhaps He may interrupt my work and begin His own. - G. Campbell Morgan

.. All the holy men seem to have gone off and died.  There’s no one left but us sinners to carry on the ministry. - Jamie Buckingham

John 11:26

"Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

Thoughts on Today's Verse....

Several days ago, we emphasized that Christians who died physically were never really separated from their relationship with God's loving presence. Today, Jesus challenges us to believe a very similar thing. Do you believe that the real, living part of you made by God will never die even though your physical body dies?

It's an incredible thought, isn't it? We are eternal, immortal, joined with Jesus and his future is joined with us. (See Colossians 3:1-4)
