The Book of Genesis

Genesis  in many ways anticipates the New Testament, the very personal God, the Trinity, the institution of marriage, the seriousness of sin, divine judgement, and righteousness by faith.

The tree of Life, lost in Genesis, is restored in Revelation 22.

A Key Lesson in Faith

God will ultimately supply the final answer to mankind’s most perplexing problems through the outflow of the Holy Spirit.

John 17:20-21

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. —

Few things are more precious than knowing that Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, thought to pray for us! So often, we read the words of John 17 and study them as a prayer for his apostles in the upper room.

But if we look closely at this passage, we see that Jesus prays for us, those who believe on him because of the apostles' testimony. He wants us to be one! He wants us to live with the same unity, purpose, and character of God that he did. If we do not, then how will the world know that God sent his Son? How will they know what to believe? How will they find Jesus as their Saviour?

Spiritual Thoughts

. God gives us loving warnings in His Word to protect and preserve us.

. The treasures of truth in God’s Word are best mined with the spade of meditation.

. Breathing is more miraculous than anything that takes our breath away.

. After we hear the Word of God, we should then take up the work of God.

. God’s peace pillows the head when God’s promises calm the heart.

. The church works best when we see ourselves as participants, not as spectators.

. Jesus came to earth for us so we could go to heaven with Him.

. The key word of Christmas is “Immanuel”— God with us!

. If sin were not deceitful, it wouldn’t seem delightful.

. Love that is born at Calvary bears and forbears, gives and forgives.
