Anointing in the Old Testament

1 Samuel 10:1

Then Samuel took a flask  of olive oil and poured it on Saul’s head and kissed him, saying, “Has not the Lord anointed  you ruler over his inheritance?

1 Samuel 16:13

So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed  him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord  came powerfully upon David.  Samuel then went to Ramah.

1 Kings 1:39

Zadok the priest took the horn of oil  from the sacred tent  and anointed Solomon. Then they sounded the trumpet  and all the people shouted,  “Long live King Solomon!”

2 Kings 9:3

Then take the flask and pour the oil  on his head and declare, ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run; don’t delay!”

2 Kings 11:12

Jehoiada brought out the king’s son and put the crown on him; he presented him with a copy of the covenant  and proclaimed him king. They anointed  him, and the people clapped their hands  and shouted, “Long live the king!”

2 Kings 23:30

Josiah’s servants brought his body in a chariot  from Megiddo to Jerusalem and buried him in his own tomb. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz son of Josiah and anointed him and made him king in place of his father.

Exodus 29:36

Sacrifice a bull each day  as a sin offering to make atonement . Purify the altar by making atonement for it, and anoint it to consecrate  it.

Exodus 30:25-26

Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer.  It will be the sacred anointing oil.    Then use it to anoint  the tent of meeting, the ark of the covenant law,

Exodus 29:7

Take the anointing oil  and anoint him by pouring it on his head.
