Favor in Trials

1 Peter 2:18-25

Every believer wants God’s favor. We usually have expectations of what that looks like since the word favor brings to mind blessings, and no one would include things like mistreatment in that category. But while unfairness and other harsh conditions aren’t good in themselves, the way we respond can bring divine favor.

No one was treated more unfairly than Jesus. He never did wrong, yet He was reviled, mocked, tortured, and killed by men. However, He didn’t revile in return or utter threats but instead entrusted Himself to His Father.

Praise the Lord

Your Name is Holy!
Let them praise your great and awesome name. Your name is holy! Mighty King, lover of justice, you have established fairness. You have acted with justice and righteousness. - Psalm 99:3-4

Wisdom

Proverbs 17:27
A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered.

The Poor

Proverbs 19:17
He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord,
And He will pay back what he has given.

Proverbs 21:13
Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor
Will also cry himself and not be heard.

Thought

No human heart believed, no human voice declared that there was such a grave—a grave robbed by the power of a victor stronger than man’s great enemy, death.  It was therefore a new and wonderful message which the Apostle communicated, when unto the dying race of man he lifted up his voice in the words: “One human form has risen from the dead; one grave of earth is empty; the man Christ Jesus who was dead, is alive again.” - S. S. Mitchell
