Reverence

Joshua 4:24

He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the LORD is powerful and so that you might always fear the LORD your God. —

God brought the Israelites miraculously through the Jordan River during the flood season because of his love and grace and to fulfil his promises to them.

But he was also making an important statement about himself and his people. He always wanted Israel to "reverence" him. In addition, he wanted Israel's enemies to quake with fear. They did. And God won a great victory for himself and his people because of his faith.

Christians must not practice evil:

They must put away all evil – 1 Peter 2:1
Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking

They must not use  their liberty as a cover  for wickedness – 1 Peter 2:16
as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God. Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

They abhor (hate) evil -Romans 12:9
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.

They overcome evil with good – Romans 12:21
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

God’s Voice Then and Now

Genesis 12:1-7
To understand how God may be speaking to us today, we should first examine how He spoke in the past. What made His voice so clear to the heroes of faith?

Through the various methods, the Lord has continually reassured His people that He cares for them and is present at their side. This is certainly much-needed encouragement for our lives. Yet God may not choose to convey a message in the same way He’s done in the past. However, we know His voice is always clear in His Word when we’re willing to listen.
