Looking for a Friend?

A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. — Proverbs 18:24

Who are your closest friends? Good friends are hard to come by in a world of superficial acquaintances and shallow relationships. "Hanging with the crowd" can give us a false sense of belonging, but often leaves us wounded and alone in times of trouble. Open, honest, supportive, and loving relationships don't happen without investment. Ask the Lord to lead you to close friends in his family. Minister to and serve those around you. Listen to their requests, faithfully upholding them in prayer.

Spend time in Christian service with other servant believers. Join yourself to a Bible study or accountability group. As you do, trust that God will give you that "stick-through-thick-and-thin-friend." Companions are easy to find, but can be unreliable. Development of Christian friends is an investment of effort and time, but they are friends with whom we will share forever.

Thoughts

. For me prayer is a surge of the heart, it is a simple look towards heaven, it is a cry of recognition of love, embracing both trial and joy. - Therese of Lisieux

. When saving for old age, be sure to put away a few pleasant thoughts. - Unknown. A man can accept what Christ has done without knowing how it works; indeed, he certainly won’t know how it works until he’s accepted it. - C. S. Lewis

Born into the World

Luke 2:1-3
In those days Caesar Augustus  issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.    (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)    And everyone went to their own town to register.

Given by the Father

Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government  will be on his shoulders.
 And he will be called
 Wonderful Counselor,  Mighty God,
 Everlasting  Father,  Prince of Peace.
