Jesus
Matthew 26:39-44
39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the
ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from
me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.
“Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter.
41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.
The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it
is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will
be done.”
43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because
their eyes were heavy.
44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the
third time, saying the same thing.
Mark 1:35
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got
up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
Mark 14:35-39
35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed
that if possible the hour might pass from him.
36 “Abba, Father,” he
said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I
will, but what you will.”
37 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.
“Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one
hour?
38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.
The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
39 Once more he went away and prayed the same thing.
Luke 5:16
But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
Luke 9:29
As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and
his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.
Luke 22:32-44
32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not
fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
33 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison
and to death.”
34 Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster
crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”
35 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag
or sandals, did you lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered.
36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it,
and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.
37 It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the
transgressors’; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is
written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”
38 The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.”
“That is enough,” he replied.
39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his
disciples followed him.
40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you
will not fall into temptation.”
41 He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down
and prayed,
42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet
not my will, but yours be done.”
43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.
44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his
sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
