Conduct conferences affecting the universal church
Acts 1:15
In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group
numbering about a hundred and twenty)
Acts 15:1-4
1 Some men came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching
the brothers: “Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by
Moses, you cannot be saved.”
2 This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and
debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other
believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this
question.
3 The church sent them on their way, and as they traveled
through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told how the Gentiles had been converted.
This news made all the brothers very glad.
4 When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the
church and the apostles and elders, to whom they reported everything God had
done through them.
Acts 16:4
As they traveled from town to town, they delivered the
decisions reached by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to
obey.
Permit local churches to select their own leaders
Acts 1:23-26
23 So they proposed two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also
known as Justus) and Matthias.
24 Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone's heart. Show
us which of these two you have chosen
25 to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to
go where he belongs.”
26 Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he
was added to the eleven apostles.
Acts 6:1-7
1 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing,
the Grecian Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their
widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.
2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said,
“It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in
order to wait on tables.
3 Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to
be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them
4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of
the word.”
5 This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen,
a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor,
Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism.
6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and
laid their hands on them.
7 So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in
Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to
the faith.
