Praying With Authority.

 Elijah is a good example of someone who prayed with authority. The Lord sent him into battle the evil King Ahab and the 450 prophets of Baal. This was a spiritual conflict to prove who was the real God - Baal or the Lord of Israel.

Elijah's weapons were his knowledge of the Father's plan and the authority he had in prayer as a prophet of God.

His request - that Jehovah would make Himself known,  voiced publicly before his opponents, matched the Lord's will (Ex. 7:5; 1 Kings 18:37). And when God responded to Elijah's prayer,  the people declared, "The Lord, He is God"  (1 Kings 18:39).

Are you child of a God? If so, you can pray with spiritual might by making  sure your requests are in agreement with His will.

'The Rock Meets Jesus' — John 1:42

When a new child is born, godly parents stare lovingly at their gift from the Father and wonder, "What will this child grow up to be?" They name the child, taking great care not to give that child a name that will be a burden. They want their child to be blessed by God and to be a blessing to others. But they don't know, they can't know, what lies ahead. Jesus changed Simon's name to Peter (Cephas), or the Rock.

Jesus could look beyond Peter's blustering ego and horrible failures to the man who loved God and who could be used mightily for the Kingdom. What does Jesus see in you? No matter where you have been or the road you have taken to this point, Jesus can give you a new life and a new name. He has great plans for you. Don't be dismayed.

Don't let discouragement claim you. If he can change Simon into the Rock, he can change you and use you mightily, too!

'From All Over' — Mark 1:5

Distance was no barrier. Confession of their sins and baptism were not barriers. They were hungry for God. Are we hungry for God today? What barriers do we let keep us away from seeking God with all of our hearts?

Faithfulness through the midst of storm is demonstrated. A real historical context for everyday people is made with the presence of a Roman census. Scandal, promise, faithfulness, and history collide. Jesus enters our world very much in a place where we find ourselves — a place of hope and dreams marred by scandal and disappointment. He will be a people's Messiah. We know it before he is even born. It makes us love him and appreciate him more! . God has chosen to enter our world as one of us, not as some pristine and untouched alien from beyond. This is a Messiah we can reach and follow. This Jesus is one of us.

We often view difficult times, crisis times, as bad because the circumstances we face are very hard. But difficult times can also be an opportunity for our hearts to re-awaken to the steadfastness and the gloriousness of God, as well as our great need for him in our lives.

The crisis of Uzziah's death for Israel and Isaiah became the great opportunity for Isaiah to see God in a fresh way and to be called into a special ministry for God. How can God use your crises, hardships, trials, and difficulties? Why don't you ask him to show you!

There is only one proper response for God's gift of Jesus — our praise and adoration. God's love, grace, favor, blessing, forgiveness, mercy, and salvation come to us through the incredible gift of Jesus. How can we not praise him? How can our hearts remain still and voices remain silent before such an incredible God? They can't, or won't, at least right now! Let's see their refusal as our reminder that we need to reach as many as possible before every knee bows and every tongue confesses that Jesus is Lord to the glory of the Father!

God is not the big Scrooge in the sky, critically looking down on his flawed children waiting to condemn those who mess up. Instead, he saw how broken, flawed, and messed up we were and entered our world to save it... to save us. God's purpose in sending Jesus is our life and our salvation.

God reminds us that our words and the way we use our speech greatly impact the quality of life we enjoy. Nothing cuts short a vibrant life like evil speech and lies we tell. They set loose a force of deception and damage that we cannot control. This unleashed power not only damages those about whom and to whom we speak, but they eventually boomerang and come back and bring their deadly payload back into our own lives. Let's be people who speak what is right, good, wholesome, holy, true, and a blessing. (cf. Ephesians 4:20-5:12)

David’s trust in trouble


Psalm 20:1

Acts 2:41

Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. —

Wow! Wouldn't it be great to see 3,000 added to God's people in church today. Those who accepted Peter's message at Pentecost were baptized and the beginning of the early church started with an incredible bang. Earlier that day, only a small group of Jesus' followers had met to pray just as they had done for several days since Jesus' ascension. As night falls in Jerusalem, the number has jumped to over 3,000!

Acts 2 stands as a hallmark passage showing us the message of salvation, what the response of open hearts will be, and how the Holy Spirit uses this simple message to bring seeking hearts to salvation and community. Prayer

. Holy God and comforting Father, please give me eyes to see and a heart to offer loving care to those around me who are grieving. God has placed each of us in a circle of influence. Before we try to "clean up" those around us, let's first offer ourselves to God to be consecrated and to be made pure by his grace. Then, let's live in a way that shows the impact of that holiness in our lives. Jesus told us to remove the plank from our own eye before we try to clean the speck out of someone else's eye. For leaders at any level, "living holy" is essential before calling others to holiness! God's greatest times of spiritual renewal begin when leaders first consecrate themselves to God and his work.

He will return and show favor to those who forsake the holy covenant.

Blessings of Faith

Pointing Others to Jesus' — John 1:15

John the Baptizer was courageous. John was passionate, but he realized he was just a "pointer" — someone who directed people to someone far greater than himself. Jesus was in existence long before John appeared on the scene. In fact, Jesus existed before creation. No matter how important others viewed him, John knew God had sent him to earth with one primary job: Point others to Jesus, the preexistent "Word" of God!

In a world full of people obsessed with getting their fifteen seconds of fame, John is a breath of fresh air. His life challenges each of us to ask an important question: Will I spend my life helping others know of Jesus' greatness rather than having them focus on me?

1 Samuel 12:20

"Do not be afraid," Samuel replied [to the people of Israel]. "You have done all this evil; yet do not turn away from the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart." —

Israel wanted a King. This crushed Samuel's heart and angered God with the people's lack of faith. Samuel, however, reminds them that while they have stumbled and fallen, they must not abandon the LORD himself. Instead, their political concerns must give way to their total allegiance to God and their willingness to serve him fully.

'Immeasurably More'

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

God’s Timing

While God’s promises may be delayed, they are never diminished with time. We can always trust God’s timing. God sometimes may seem silent, but His work is never dormant. You may not hear God speaking, but you can see Him working. He is rarely early, but He is never late and while you are waiting on God’s timing, you can be sure He is working.

His sovereignty allows His silence. He came as a child of an earthly mother so we could become children of a heavenly Father. He gives us spiritual freedom, a supernatural family and special favour.

Dear Readers

Somebody has to go down and full them of them. It's not one day job but it’s daily work. That's the reason Bible tells us, take your cross on a daily basis.

Matter is urgent as the 'Great Commission' tells us.

Lord God has given each one of us different spiritual gifts, let's use them to save our brothers and sisters.

Holy Things in Scripture – 5

'Left Behind' — Mark 1:19-20

Jesus continued walking by Lake Galilee. He saw two more brothers, James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in their boat, preparing their nets to catch fish. Their father Zebedee and the men that worked for him were in the boat with the brothers. When Jesus saw the brothers he told them to come. They left their father and followed Jesus. - Mark 1:19-20

There is a cost to following Jesus. Some people won't understand. Some of those who won't understand may even be in our own families. However, we are called to follow, knowing that others we love might not be willing to face the cost of that discipleship. Don't be fooled, dear friend, by preachers promising everything while implying there will not be heartbreak or hardship.

Some we love will not follow with us. However, our hope and prayer is that their reluctance will only be temporary and that through us they will come to know the Jesus we follow. The first step, however, is to follow ... no matter the cost!

1 Samuel 12:22

For the sake of his great name the LORD will not reject his people, because the LORD was pleased to make you his own. —

The great and holy God will not be unfaithful. In fact, he will act to show his character and honor his holy name, even when his people don't deserve his grace. Why God would love and preserve us and our great Israelite ancestors is nothing short of grace, love, and faithfulness.

'Not Seeking the Spotlight' — John 1:19-21

This was John's testimony when the Jewish leaders sent priests and Temple assistants from Jerusalem to ask John, "Who are you?" He came right out and said, "I am not the Messiah." "Well then, who are you?" they asked. "Are you Elijah?" "No," he replied. "Are you the Prophet we are expecting?" "No."

— John 1:19-21

Who are you? What would you do to be viewed as important by others? How much does your acceptance by others matter? I don't know about you, but these are convicting questions for me. Most of us are not happy living our lives in the shadow of someone else, no matter how important that person is. Most of us want to be viewed as significant. John the Baptizer, however, lived a life of importance BECAUSE he chose the shadows and pointed others to Jesus, the Light. He directed his followers to Jesus. He refused to be called the Messiah they were seeking. God was pleased with John's choice! Jesus said of him, "John was like a burning and shining lamp, ..." (John 5:35). May the same also be true of each of us!

'The Missing Ingredient!'

On one occasion, while he [Jesus] was eating with them [the disciples], he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." - Acts 1:4-5 NIV

Jesus' closest followers had seen him betrayed, crucified, and raised from the dead. They had been with the Lord after his resurrection — they had touched his scars, shared meals with him, and heard his voice. They had an incredible story to tell, and the world desperately needed to hear their message. However, they lacked one crucial ingredient to begin their mission: They did not have the Holy Spirit. Jesus told them to wait! In spite of the urgency of the disciples' mission, everything was on hold until Jesus poured out the promised Holy Spirit.

No matter how well we think we may be ready to do great things for God, we must also remember that we are not ready to begin without the power of the Holy Spirit!

The Chief end of all Prayer

Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. —

The human body is an amazing collection of parts, members, vital organs, systems, and interdependent structures. When the body is healthy and these different elements of the body work in concert with one another, the human body can do amazing things. The same is true with the Body of Christ! As long as we do our part and offer it for the good of the whole, Christ can do amazing things through us!

My only Hope

Lord, there is none beside thee to help. (2 Chronicles 14:11,).

Remind God of His entire responsibility. "There is none beside thee to help." The odds against Asa were enormous. There was a million of men in arms against him, besides three hundred chariots. It seemed impossible to hold his own against that vast multitude. There were no allies who would come to his help; his only hope, therefore, was in God.

It may be that your difficulties have been allowed to come to so alarming a pitch that you may be compelled to renounce all creature aid, to which in lesser trials you have had recourse, and cast yourself back on your Almighty Friend.

Showers of Blessing

I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing (Ezekiel 34:26).

Then that too is the season for showers. "Your strength will equal your days" (Deut. 33:25). "I will send... showers of blessing." Notice that the word 'showers' is plural.

God will send all kinds of blessings. And all His blessings go together like links in a golden chain. If He gives you saving grace, He will also give you comforting grace. God will send "showers of blessings." Look up today, you who are dried and withered plants. Open your leaves and flowers and receive God's heavenly watering.

Persistent Prayer

Urgent persistent prayer involves your whole soul being. It is a mighty movement of your whole soul toward God.

Find Refuge

  “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” - Psalm 91:1-2

As we enter a new year, we realize that last year is history and the coming year is a mystery. We do not know what the coming year will bring. We live in turbulent times — politically, morally, financially, and socially. Only God knows what the new year will bring. That is why we must stick courageously with Jesus and His word.
When we dwell with Him and on Him and allow ourselves to draw near to Him, we can rest in His shadow. We can rest with Him near because He is our refuge and our fortress, our hiding place, our protection, and our defence. He is our God, in whom we trust.

In this world there will always be trouble, but Jesus said, “… take heart, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

As we face the year ahead, may we have the patience of Job, the wisdom of Solomon, and the courage to stand by our Christian convictions.

Father, thank You that we can come to You in prayer anytime, day or night, whether on our knees, on our chairs, on our beds, or walking throughout this magnificent world You’ve created for us. I pray that You would speak to our hearts today about how our prayer lives can be more effective and how we can have richer conversations with You.

Psalm 90:2

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. —

So often we look up and time has passed us by. The things we promised ourselves we'd accomplish and the deeds we told others we'd do get left undone. Before we know it, days have become weeks, and weeks months, and months years. We find ourselves unable to do what we once assumed we could do any time we want.

We must ask the Spirit of God to help us see and seize the opportunities the LORD places in our path.

Waiting for God’s help?

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;

And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.

 When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,

 Nor shall the flame scorch you.” – Isaiah 43:2

God does not open paths for us in advance of our coming. He does not promise help before help is needed. He does not remove obstacles out of our way before we reach them.

Yet when we are on the edge of our need, God's hand is stretched out.

He [God] has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. —

God's desires for us are not hard to discern. He wants to bless us with salvation. The incredible gift of his Son is powerful testimony to this truth. Yet salvation from sin and death is not something he wants to happen in our lives just once.

He wants our lives to daily reflect his salvation and to share it with others. When we act justly, pursue mercy in our relationships, and honor him with our worship from a humble heart then God's salvation becomes real in our lives and impacts others with his grace.
In the language of Jesus, we work for God's kingdom to come and will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

The Promise of Guidance

  “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.” Proverbs 3: 5 & 6

January is a time when we look ahead and plan into a new year. Sometimes the way is exciting and clear. Other times it may be foggy and uncertain.

God’s word gives us sure footing as we stand on the threshold of a new day. Every single morning His call to us is to trust Him with our day. He will direct our paths one step at a time.

These verses go on to encourage us not to be wise in our own eyes and to walk in ways pleasing to God. The promise of this kind of trust even aids our health as confidence in God will even reduce our stress.

Acknowledging Him in every step and every decision is a wise way to live.

New Year – Kingdom People

John 3:3

In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." —

"Fast away the old year passes..." But we can be new and fresh and clean (cf. 2 Cor. 4:17). Kingdom people are those who have been born fresh and new through the power of the Spirit and the grace of God (cf. John 3:3-7; Titus 3:3-7; John 1:11).

So as we close out the old year, with its good things and bad, achievements and failures, successes and disappointments, let's approach the New Year as Kingdom people. God's mercies are new every morning and our lives can be made new everyday by the Holy Spirit who lives in us. Yes, we have been born again. But each sunrise offers us the opportunity to be made new, to live in a fresh new way, as God's grace rekindles our hopes and the Holy Spirit makes us new as we trust in Jesus our Lord.

Prayer

. Holy and Righteous Father, I know that you have declared me righteous and holy because of Jesus' sacrifice. Now I ask that you help me live up to what you have declared me to be. Through your Holy Spirit's indwelling, please fill me with your love and drive out anything unclean, evil, or rancid that dwells in my heart. Thank you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
