God’s power revealed to the people
Genesis 15:17
When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking
firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces.
Exodus 3:1-6
1 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his
father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of
the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the
LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that
though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go
over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.” 4 When the LORD
saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush,
“Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” 5 “Do not come any closer,” God
said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy
ground.” 6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the
God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was
afraid to look at God.
Joshua 3:14-17
14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the
priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant went ahead of them. 15 Now the Jordan
is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried
the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water's edge, 16 the
water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance
away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water
flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea) was completely cut off. So
the people crossed over opposite Jericho. 17 The priests who carried the ark of
the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan,
while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on
dry ground.
Luke 8:22-25
22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let's go over to the
other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they
sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was
being swamped, and they were in great danger. 24 The disciples went and woke
him, saying, “Master, Master, we're going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the
wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25 “Where is
your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one
another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey
him.”
