Faith in the blood
1 Peter 1:18-23
18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such
as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down
to you from your forefathers,
19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without
blemish or defect.
20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was
revealed in these last times for your sake.
21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the
dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth
so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from
the heart.
23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but
of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
Revelation 1:5
and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the
firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who
loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood,
Faith without works
Romans 3:24-31
24 and are justified freely by his grace through the
redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
25 God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through
faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his
forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—
26 he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time,
so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle?
On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith.
28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart
from observing the law.
29 Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles
too? Yes, of Gentiles too,
30 since there is only one God, who will justify the
circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith.
31 Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all!
Rather, we uphold the law.
