Crown of pride
Isaiah 28:1-5
1 Woe to that wreath, the pride of Ephraim's drunkards, to
the fading flower, his glorious beauty, set on the head of a fertile valley— to
that city, the pride of those laid low by wine!
2 See, the Lord has one who is powerful and strong. Like a
hailstorm and a destructive wind, like a driving rain and a flooding downpour,
he will throw it forcefully to the ground.
3 That wreath, the pride of Ephraim's drunkards, will be
trampled underfoot.
4 That fading flower, his glorious beauty, set on the head of
a fertile valley, will be like a fig ripe before harvest— as soon as someone
sees it and takes it in his hand, he swallows it.
5 In that day the LORD Almighty will be a glorious crown, a
beautiful wreath for the remnant of his people.
Crown of thorns
Matthew 27:29
and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his
head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked
him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said.
Mark 15:17
They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown
of thorns and set it on him.
John 19:2-5
2 The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it
on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe
3 and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of
the Jews!” And they struck him in the face.
4 Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews, “Look, I am
bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge
against him.”
5 When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the
purple robe, Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!”
