Come short of the goal
Hebrews 4:1
Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest
still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short
of it.
Fail to labor to enter life
Hebrews 4:11
Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that
rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.
John 6:7
Philip answered him, “Eight months’ wages would not
buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”
Fail to put to death the deeds of the body
Romans 8:12-13
12 Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it
is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it.
13 For if you live according to the sinful nature, you
will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you
will live,
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the
kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters
nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders
10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor
slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And that is what some of you were. But you were
washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus
Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Colossians 3:5-10
5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your
earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed,
which is idolatry.
6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.
7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once
lived.
8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things
as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off
your old self with its practices
10 and have put on the new self, which is being
renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
