The choice of God comes from grace, not from our goodness:
Romans 11:5
So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by
grace.
2 Timothy 1:9
Who has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of
anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was
given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
Romans 4:5
However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who
justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.
Romans 5:6-8
6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still
powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for
a good man someone might possibly dare to die.
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we
were still sinners, Christ died for us.
God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world:
Ephesians 1:4-11
4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to
be holy and blameless in his sight. In love
5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus
Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—
6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely
given us in the One he loves.
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the
forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace
8 that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.
9 And he made known to us the mystery of his will according
to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,
10 to be put into effect when the times will have
reached their fulfillment—to bring all things in heaven and on earth together
under one head, even Christ.
11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according
to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of
his will,
2 Thessalonians 2:13
But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by
the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying
work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.
Romans 8:29
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to
the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
