Deuteronomy 15:4
However, there should be no poor among you, for in the land
the LORD your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance; he will richly
bless you,
Deuteronomy 14:28-29
28 At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of
that year's produce and store it in your towns,
29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance
of their own) and the aliens, the fatherless and the widows who live in your
towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the LORD your God may
bless you in all the work of your hands.
Deuteronomy 26:12-14
12 When you have finished setting aside a tenth of all your
produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, you shall give it to the
Levite, the alien, the fatherless and the widow, so that they may eat in your
towns and be satisfied.
13 Then say to the LORD your God: “I have removed from my
house the sacred portion and have given it to the Levite, the alien, the
fatherless and the widow, according to all you commanded. I have not turned
aside from your commands nor have I forgotten any of them.
14 I have not eaten any of the sacred portion while I was in
mourning, nor have I removed any of it while I was unclean, nor have I offered
any of it to the dead. I have obeyed the LORD my God; I have done everything
you commanded me.
Deuteronomy 10:18-19
18 He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and
loves the alien, giving him food and clothing.
19 And you are to love those who are aliens, for you
yourselves were aliens in Egypt.
Proverbs 19:17
He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will
reward him for what he has done.
Mark 12:30
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
Luke 16:19-25
19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine
linen and lived in luxury every day.
20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with
sores
21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table.
Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried
him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried.
23 In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw
Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.
24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and
send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because
I am in agony in this fire.’
25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime
you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is
comforted here and you are in agony.
