John the Baptist
Luke 7:24-28
24 After John's messengers left, Jesus began to speak to the
crowd about John: “What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swayed by
the wind?
25 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine
clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes and indulge in luxury are in
palaces.
26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell
you, and more than a prophet.
27 This is the one about whom it is written: “‘I will send my
messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’
28 I tell you, among those born of women there is no one
greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater
than he.”
Jonah
Matthew 12:39-41
39 He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for
a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet
Jonah.
40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly
of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the
heart of the earth.
41 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this
generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now
one greater than Jonah is here.
Joy
Matthew 25:21
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!
You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many
things. Come and share your master's happiness!’
Luke 15:7
I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing
in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons
who do not need to repent.
Luke 15:10
In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the
presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
