Matthew 7:7-11
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.
8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to
him who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 “Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a
stone?
10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good
gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good
gifts to those who ask him!
Hosea 12:3-4
3 In the womb he grasped his brother's heel; as a man he
struggled with God.
4 He struggled with the angel and overcame him; he wept and
begged for his favor. He found him at Bethel and talked with him there—
Daniel 9:20-22
20 While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and
the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the LORD my God for his
holy hill—
21 while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen
in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening
sacrifice.
22 He instructed me and said to me, “Daniel, I have now come
to give you insight and understanding.
Daniel 2:18-23
18 He urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven
concerning this mystery, so that he and his friends might not be executed with
the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
19 During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a
vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven
20 and said: “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
wisdom and power are his.
21 He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes
them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.
22 He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in
darkness, and light dwells with him.
23 I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers: You have
given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you, you
have made known to us the dream of the king.”
