Permit local churches to select their own leaders
Acts 13:1
In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers:
Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought
up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul.
2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy
Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have
called them.”
3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their
hands on them and sent them off.
4 The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went
down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus.
5 When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of
God in the Jewish synagogues. John was with them as their helper.
Acts 14:23
Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church
and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put
their trust.
Acts 15:2
This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate
with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other
believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this
question.
Acts 15:4
When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church
and the apostles and elders, to whom they reported everything God had done
through them.
Acts 15:30
The men were sent off and went down to Antioch, where they
gathered the church together and delivered the letter.
2 Corinthians 8:19
What is more, he was chosen by the churches to accompany us
as we carry the offering, which we administer in order to honor the Lord
himself and to show our eagerness to help.
