Go to dark Gethsemane

Mark 14: 32-42

"Go to Dark Gethsemane, ye that feel the temper's power; Your Redeemer's conflict see, watch with Him one single hour."  (James Montgomery)

THESE are two lines of an old hymn that gives us a glimpse of what went on at Gethsemane.

REQUEST FOR PRAYER (Vs. 32-34):  Jesus recognized the importance of the power of prayer.  Jesus knew the value of being supported in prayer at the time of his greatest needed.  We're not Peter, James and John His closest friends - who better to ask?!  When someone asks you for prayer, do not be slack however insignificant or unimportant that request might seem to be.

REQUEST FOR RELIEFS (vs. 35-36):  Wasn't Jesus the all-powerful, miracle-working Lord of the universe?  Why then was he so distressed?  The "cup" (a picture of the wrath and anger of God on the entire human race of the past, present and future) was now being solely focussed and poured out on Jesus!  It is a burden that none of us can even begin to imagine!  Yet, in the end, Jesus was willing, completely, to submit to His God's will!  What obedience!  What selfless mercy!

REQUEST FOR PRESERVATION (vs. 36-42):  The second time Jesus saw His disciples sleeping, he asked them to pray for themselves.  Remember, Jesus predicted that His sheep would be scattered too!  The disciples would face trouble and oppression too!  They needed divine strength as much as He did.  So do you and I to be faithful disciples of Jesus!
To be faithful, O Lord is so difficult sometimes!~  Give us the strength and the courage that we need every day.
