Confession of sin
Luke 18:13-14
13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not
even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a
sinner.’
14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went
home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and
he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Confidence
Mark 10:24
The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again,
“Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!
Conflict
Matthew 10:34-36
34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the
earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
35 For I have come to turn “‘a man against his father, a daughter
against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—
36 a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.’
Conscience
John 8:7-9
7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and
said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw
a stone at her.”
8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a
time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still
standing there.
