To learn
more about the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the leader and in the
life of other believers, here are some passages you might want to read. It
would be great to work through some of these as a small group to encourage
others to live a life of the Spirit.
The
sanctifying ministry of the Holy Spirit
Romans
8:11-12
11 And if
the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who
raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through
his Spirit, who lives in you.
12
Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature,
to live according to it.
2
Corinthians 3:18
And we, who
with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into
his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the
Spirit.
2
Thessalonians 2:13
But we ought
always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the
beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit
and through belief in the truth.
The
teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit
John 16:13
But when he,
the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak
on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet
to come.
1
Corinthians 2:13
His is what
we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the
Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.
The
intercessory ministry of the Holy Spirit
Romans 8:26
In the same
way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray
for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot
express.
The
empowering ministry of the Holy Spirit
Luke 4:14
Jesus
returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread
through the whole countryside.
Acts 1:8
But you will
receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses
in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Romans 15:13
May the God
of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may
overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:19
By the power
of signs and miracles, through the power of the Spirit. So from Jerusalem all
the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.
