Limitations of the Law

. Cannot justify

Acts 13:39

Through him everyone who believes  is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.

. Cannot condemn sin the flesh

Romans 8:3

For what the law was powerless  to do because it was weakened by the flesh,  God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh  to be a sin offering.  And so he condemned sin in the flesh,

. Cannot make people perfect

Hebrews 10:1

The law is only a shadow  of the good things  that are coming—not the realities themselves.  For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect  those who draw near to worship.

. Cannot gain righteousness

Galatians 2:21

I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law,  Christ died for nothing!”

. Cannot have clear conscience

Hebrews 9:8-9

The Holy Spirit was showing  by this that the way  into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still functioning.   This is an illustration  for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered  were not able to clear the conscience  of the worshiper.

Thought

.. You should pray every hour.  The most necessary and the most difficult form of prayer is to remember–in spite of the numerous distractions of life–your obligations to God, to his law.  You become scared, you become upset, you become embarrassed, you become too involved or distracted by something.  But you should always remember who you are and what you should do.  This is what a real prayer should be about.  This is difficult in the beginning, but with time you can work and create this habit. - Leo Tolstoy
