Meanings to lifting up on hands.

An act of Worship

Psalms 134:2

Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the LORD.

Psalms 143:6

I spread out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land.

An act of judgment.

Isaiah 25:11

They will spread out their hands in it, as a swimmer spreads out his hands to swim. God will bring down their pride despite the cleverness of their hands.

An act of creation

Isaiah 45:12

It is I who made the earth and created mankind upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts.

An invitation

Isaiah 65:2

All day long I have held out my hands to an obstinate people, who walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations—invitation

An act of despair

Jeremiah 4:31

I hear a cry as of a woman in labor, a groan as of one bearing her first child— the cry of the Daughter of Zion gasping for breath, stretching out her hands and saying, “Alas! I am fainting; my life is given over to murderers.”

An act of blessing

Luke 24:50

When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them.
