Why to read the Bible books?

1 Samuel

Exciting stories of Samuel, Saul and David fill the pages of 1 Samuel. Read how they struggled with themselves, with each other, and with God, and how they transformed Israel from a group of tribes governed by judges to a nation by a King.

2 Samuel

David is remembered as Israel’s most powerful King and as a human being who made some terrible mistakes. Read about his struggles and see how one man’s relationship with God affects the face of the nation he rules.

1 Kings

Israel experienced its “golden age” of peace and prosperity under King Solomon. But even Israel’s wisest King wasn’t perfect. Read 1 Kings to see what happened to the peace Israel enjoyed because of Solomon’s disobedience to the Lord.

2 Kings

The book continues the story of those who ruled Israel and Judah. Read 2 Kings to find out which rulers were faithful to God and which were not. And read about a real hero, Elisha the prophet.

1 Chronicles

Important stories are worth repeating. Although the story of David is told in 1 and 2 Samuel, the author of 1 Chronicles offers another viewpoint on the life of Israel’s greatest King.

2 Chronicles

Remembering a golden age from the past can give people strength and hope even when they are living in exile. Read 2 Chronicles and see how God’s chosen people were encouraged by recalling their faithful leaders from the past.

Ezra

Going home can be an exciting time. As you read Ezra, look for the different experiences God’s people had when they returned with Zerubbabel, Ezra, and Nehemiah.
